Welcome to Rebecca Ward's Gerbilry

At the Midatlantic Show, January 23-25, 2009, two of my gerbils, Bambi and Flower, each took a blue first place ribbon in the pet class. Bambi won the "Toilet Paper Tube Chewing" contest and Flower won the 4th heat of the "HamTrack Ball" race.

I am a certified AGS breeder which means that I adhere to the tenets put forth in the by-laws of the American Gerbil Society.  I DO NOT sell any of my gerbils as feeders for other animals.  I also do not place any pups before 6 weeks of age except with other AGS breeders (and that is only if the doe can't raise her own pups.)

My Gerbilry is very small. This is on purpose.  I know how much time I have each day to interact with my gerbils.  If I had more tanks, I wouldn't be able to give them the attention they need to be person-friendly gerbils.  If my schedule changes in the future to allow me more free time, I will certainly consider adding some tanks for more breeding pairs.  I also am considering the demand for gerbils in my area.  Only one of the local pet stores purchases breeder-bred gerbils, and that isn't all the time, so the majority of my new homes come from people who visit this site.  I do not want to exceed my ability to place the pups in good homes.

 Hand friendly pups

My first aim is to breed hand-friendly pups.  Secondarily, I will try for colors that please me.  When I say hand-friendly, here is an example. Note the pup halfway up my husband's arm, and he isn't even the primary care-giver.  There are 5 pups in this tank, but three are behind his arm.   These pups have all been adopted.
